David Dubrofsky and Frank Manitta have been in the business of making windows and doors for a long time – over 35 years. During that time they have built up Marlboro to be one of the top custom manufacturers in Ottawa. It’s a third generation, family owned business, and that was the sense we got when we were shooting with them – like we were part of the family.
Making these films was really fun. These guys loved being on camera and they loved having us there. We wanted to balance the family vibe with the feeling that these guys are the real deal. There needed to be a marketing message in there to make sure potential customers understand that they’re getting some of the best windows around, but we had the freedom to produce an authentic story of a team that are truly passionate about their craft.
Creating the short “Middle Man” vignettes was a challenge. We had a 4-hour shooting window to shoot three sketches with actors we’d never worked with before, but thanks to the great acting skills of Thea McNeil and Ken Godmere, we managed to pull it off and they provide a great compliment to the brand film.
